In 1984, Sabah M Ali Mahmoud established his practice GLS in London as legal advisors and consultants in the laws of the Middle East to provide an easily accessible and up to date legal advice and consultancy services on the application and interpretation of laws of Arab Countries in the Middle East (the Area) especially the countries of the Arab Gulf Coordination Council (GCC) such as the State of Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq and Jordan. GLS additionally provides advice on the principles of Islamic Law (Shariah) in the Area. Advice on Shariah principles is becoming increasingly important not only for the understanding of the laws of the Area which are based on these principles but also to realise the impact on the trend for the continuously expanding application of Shariah rules. In addition to providing expert advice on the laws of the Area to professional practitioners in the UK, Europe and the US in litigious matters or to assist them in providing advice to their clients in the conduct of their business in the Area or to establish a presence therein, GLS also directly provides advice to individual businessmen or multinational corporate entities with a business presence in the Area or contemplating trading or doing business in or with the Area. In an Area known for frequent changes and amendments to their laws, regulations and official practices, awareness by interested parties of such changes that might have ramifications on business is imperative for the efficient and successful conduct of such business. GLS, through its network of associated law offices practising in the Area, is kept up to date with legal developments in the Area that might be beneficial to its clients. GLS also further assists, in coordination with qualified experienced law firms in the UK, Europe and the US, Middle eastern individuals and corporate clients in their business, investments or personal affairs conducted in these countries.
