Sitting at my desk on the 17th floor of our office tower, looking at the vista spread out before me, I observe the creek full of dhows, laden with all manner of goods, ready to cross the seas to distant lands. And I see surrounding these traditional boats the skyline of the new Dubai, bright, gleaming, reaching out for the sky. This mixture of the new and the old truly symbolizes this city as it steps boldly ahead in this modern world, and yet remains connected inextricably with its past. I cannot help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction in our having played a small part in the growth of this great city. Along with this growth, we too as a Group have come a long way since we started our journey 45 years ago. A journey in which we have seen the stormiest of seas, and the calmest of waters, but which has brought us to where we are today; a family made up of 23 businesses, in a mixed variety of fields, driven by a team of well-over 2500 committed people, all working together to run a business professionally and sincerely. When we started our business with a small Grundig shop in Bur Dubai, I would admit that I never thought that we would one day have an organization such as we have today. I did have a feeling though that it was the beginning of something that would grow. I do not mind saying that the years of hard work, dedication and sincerity of our team has been rewarded. And we cannot stop now. Our dream has not ended here. We have been blessed with excellent business opportunities, relationships with some of the best companies and partners in the world and an excellent team of dedicated managers who are all joined together with me in our quest for quality - quality which stands for excellence, not just in what we do but also in how we do it.
