The Deira International School (DIS) began its first year of operation in September 2005, welcoming students to a state of the art new campus. The 80,000 sq.m. facility, located in Dubai Festival City (View Map), is one of the best designed in the region. DIS is now accepting enrolment applications for the academic year 2006 2007 for students in FS1 to Year 11. The school will progress to year 13 enabling students to complete their education. DIS offers high quality British education within an atmosphere both sensitive to and consistent with, UAE culture and tradition. The school is owned by the Al-Futtaim Group, one of the largest and most respected corporations in the lower Gulf Region. The Group operates over 40 companies which carry the Al-Futtaim name and is the developer of the Dubai Festival City project. Educational Services Overseas Limited (ESOL) manages DIS. ESOL is a leading organisation in the field of primary and secondary international education, managing ten schools that offer the British or American curriculum. DIS employs a holistic approach to education which promotes the student’s full intellectual, physical, moral and social development; realising each student’s potential. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales and awards the IGCSE certificates. Deira International School is also preparing to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP). The curriculum is designed to ensure an easy transfer to other countries, should the necessity arise. The language of instruction at the Deira International School is English. Strong Arabic and Islamic studies programmes are offered in accordance with Ministry of Education requirements. Moreover, special Islamic classes and Arabic as a foreign language (AFL) are offered to non-native Arabic speakers.
