The school began as an English language Primary school in 1982, having been originally an Arabic medium boys school. The premises were small and consisted of six classrooms in a central courtyard, arranged in traditional style around the focal point of a palm tree. In 1989 there were 65 children in the school, by 1996 this had increased to 150 and the student body has now reached nearly 400. As the number of students increased so the school was expanded over several phases, firstly in 1990 to house the new Senior Section, then in 1993 to accommodate a growing Primary Department. By 2002 Fujairah Academy had outgrown its premises and the new purpose built campus was being completed with the entire school relocated to the new premises in March 2004. The school became an examination centre for the University of London, now Edexcel in 1990 and the first students sat for their G.C.S.Es in 1992, then two years later our first students took G.C.E Advanced levels. There were only two students in the Upper Sixth and both achieved grade As in all subjects taken, with one going onto study engineering at the University of Michigan, U.S.A and the other offered a place for architecture at Edinburgh University, U.K. From this auspicious start the school has moved from strength to strength in terms of examination performance. As a small school with children of ages it had a family atmosphere with the older students helping their younger colleagues and in fact many of the students were from the same families. Small student numbers meant that all ages were required to play sports and some interesting games of basketball were played with a great variety in size of students!
