The Canadian Embassy in Abu Dhabi serves as the representative of the Government of Canada to the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Embassy, together with the Consulate in Dubai, supports and pursues Canadian interests in the UAE in economic, commercial and cultural fields and in more general terms, promotes Canadian expertise and excellence to all sectors of the general public. The Embassy and the Consulate provide Canadians abroad with the assistance in the event of accidents, theft or lost documents, as well as providing regular consular services such as passports issuance and notarisation of documents. The Embassys Trade section is responsible for promoting trade and technology exchanges between Canada and Abu Dhabi, with a particular emphasis on defence, oil and gas, telecommunications, environment, health industries, investment and financial services, and education. It actively promotes Canadian capabilities to local entities by way of organizing trade missions to and from Canada, encouraging participation in Canadian trade fairs and conferences, informing Canadian firms about market opportunities and referring them to potential local business partners. An Education Resource Centre is located in the lobby of the Canadian Embassy. The Centre promotes Canadian education to International students in the UAE and provides market information to Canadian institutions wishing to participate in the development of education and training in the UAE. The Canadian Embassy in the UAE, moreover, provides services to persons who wish to visit, study, work temporarily in Canada and to returning residents for people residing in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, The State of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar and the Republic of Yemen.
