The Republic of Poland is one of the largest countries in Central Europe, ranking eight in area. It is borders Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany. Its northern frontier is the Baltic Sea. Poland is a land of gently undulation, rarely rising above 300 m., except along the southern border with the Sudetic and Carpatian Mountain Ranges. The highest mountain peak rises 2 499 m above sea level (Rysy). The forests, pastures and meadows, long rivers and large lakes are in abundance.
