ENA was found in 2003. It is a nonprofit organization exists to strengthen nursing profession in the United Arab Emirates. The association started with a small number of members, but now there are more than 600 members who joined the ENA. National nurses associations are duly constituted, self-governing, multi-purpose voluntary bodies founded and inaugurated by the professions visionaries; developed by strong enlightened leadership and supported, strengthened and perpetuated by committed membership (ICN, 1998). * Nursing was considered part of the medical association * EMA (Emirates Medical Association in existence since 1980’s) * Other Professionals (i.e.: Radiologist, Lab.) don’t have separate associations * In most developed countries professional associations exist and are representative of the profession
