Sharjah Womens College in Dubai Directory
Over the past thirty years the UAE has experienced rapid development as a young nation and, as a result, the education sector has also seen tremendous growth. The number of schools operating in each of the seven emirates and the resulting increase in the numbers of students attending those schools has created a demand for suitably qualified and trained teachers. This is particularly important in the area of English teaching in the primary schools. A proposal was put forward to the Policy Council of the HCT in 1998 to establish a program for Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL). With the approval of the Policy Council work began on the program. The Bachelor of Education in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL), which was developed in partnership with and quality assured by the University of Melbourne, commenced delivery in September 2000. The TEYL degree was followed by a post Higher Diploma degree in Teaching Information Technology in 2001 and in 2002 a post Higher Diploma degree in Careers Advising and Counseling. Teacher education programs are offered at all six of the womens colleges with the HCT.
